One of my favorite paintings at the de Young museum in San Francisco is titled Spring Landscape (Spring in Marin County) and depicts a bucolic agricultural scene in a valley below Mt. Tamalpais. Sunlight is shining through parting clouds - it looks like a storm is moving through - a creek at the edge of the field is full, and everything is lush and green.
After four long winters without any significant rainfall, the Bay Area finally got a reprieve in the winter and spring of 2015-16. Meadows that had been dusty and dry for entire seasons finally came to life. I love running and hiking the ridge above Stinson Beach, especially emerging from the shade of the woods on the Matt Davis Trail into the warm sunlight and then heading up top to explore along the ridge line. In April last year, the long overdue rains of the prior winter had these hills exploding with color.
